5 TED Talks that Will Make You Want to Start Practicing Yoga ASAP

TEDTalks are short videos, usually 18 minutes or less, devoted to spreading ideas, changing attitudes, and ultimately, changing the world. They’re great to watch if you’re ever in need of a pick-me-up, or as an educational alternative to television.

We’ve gathered five inspiring TEDTalks for yogis and non-yogis alike, that will make you want break out your yoga mat, and get practicing today. Enjoy!

1. The Art of Stillness by Pico Iyer

In this short TEDTalk, travel writer Pico Iyer discusses how the best way to change our lives begins in our minds; in stillness we can deeply experience our lives and create a second home in time and space.

2. Recognizing Your Self Through Yoga by Aimee Bohn

How do you see yourself? Aimee Bohn talks about her journey of self-realization through yoga and mindfulness.

Bohn touches on how the stories we live by and ideas we believe shape our worldview. She shows how yoga helped her see her true self and ultimately transformed her life.

3. Breathing by Stewart Gilchrist

Watch your breath as Stewart Gilchrist discusses the importance of mindful breathing. You’ll even have a few opportunities to practice some pranayama (breath control) with him in this meditative video.

4. Dance of Prana by Deepika Mehta

Deepika Mehta takes yoga asana (poses) and turns them into a mythical dance. This deeply moving video shows the beauty of yoga as well as the many forms it can take.

5. Tending the Sacred Fire by Shiva Rea

This TEDTalk, filmed in Black Rock City (also known as Burning Man), goes in depth about our innate desire to move and create.

This talk will make you want to get out your yoga mat and move from your inner core. Dance along as Shiva Rea explains the history of dance and how free-form movement is essential to human life.
