While both restorative and yin yoga focus on slowing down and holding poses for an extended period of time, there are some key differences between the two practices.
Restorative yoga is designed to create a deep sense of relaxation in the body and mind. It typically involves the use of props such as blankets, bolsters, and blocks to support the body in passive poses for several minutes. The goal of restorative yoga is to activate the parasympathetic nervous system, which helps to reduce stress and tension in the body. Restorative yoga can be particularly beneficial for individuals with injuries, chronic pain, or stress-related conditions.
Yin yoga, on the other hand, is a practice that involves holding passive poses for several minutes to target the connective tissues of the body, such as ligaments and tendons. Yin yoga poses are typically held for longer periods of time than in restorative yoga, and they are designed to be more challenging. The goal of yin yoga is to increase flexibility, improve joint mobility, and stimulate the flow of energy throughout the body.
Both restorative and yin yoga can be beneficial for individuals who want to slow down and connect with their bodies. However, the two practices have different goals and approaches. Restorative yoga focuses on relaxation and stress reduction, while yin yoga targets the connective tissues of the body and promotes flexibility and mobility.
This course is focused on restorative yoga online teacher training, but have a look at our yin yoga teacher training if that’s something of interest to you.
