Swami Abhishek Chaitanya Giri Maharaj

Swami Abhishek Chaitanya Giri Maharaj

Swami Abhishek Chaitanya Giri Maharaj was born into a traditional, joint family in Maharashtra, India.

He studied Psychology and Behavioral Sciences at Bombay University. During this period he saw and heard Pujya Swami Chinmayananda for the first time. The Master’s strong conviction of Truth remained with him long after this first introduction to Vedanta.

He has been teaching Yogasana Philosophy, Meditation, Pranayama and Shat Karma to various students across the globe at Swami Rama Sadhka Grama. Sandeep holds a Master’s Degree in Yoga and Indian Philosophy from Uttarakhand Sanskrit University. He is a guest teacher at the Banaras Hindu University and he teaches at the International Yoga festival.

Swarup became an active volunteer in Chinmaya Yuva Kendra (Chinmaya Youth Forum) in Mumbai. The exposure to other like-minded youngsters and the Guides from Chinmaya Mission bolstered his resolve to enter the monastic life, to learn more about “knowing which all is known.”

Having graduated from Bombay University in 1994 it was not until 1996 that he was able to enter the portals of in-depth Vedantic studies at Chinmaya Mission, Powai, in Mumbai, and he embarked on Seva (service activities) in the true Karma Yoga spirit.

When he finally entered the Powai Ashram, the course turned out to be very rigorous. Under the able tutelage of his Acharya, Swami Anubhavananda, his favourite texts emerged as Swami Vidyaranya’s Pancadasi and the eternal Bhagavat Gita.

The first red-letter day came when his name and life were changed: Swarup now became Brahmachari Abhishek Chaitanya, a name appropriately chosen, for he would be the one who sprinkles nectar from all sides, be it through Karma, Bhakti or Gyana Yoga teachings.

Then came the next big step: Swami Tejumayananda, Head of Chinmaya Mission, appointed him Acharya at the Chinmaya Mission flagship, Chinmaya Residential International School, Coimbatore. The degree in Psychology now tempered with the wisdom of Vedanta made him an ideal Teacher.

With the blessings of The Masters of Chinmaya Mission, he left to walk alone towards intense sadhana and austerities (tapas) that beckoned.

Br. Abhishek Chaitanya sought and found Swami Vishwatmananda, a senior disciple of Swami Akhandananda. Under his guidance, very intense sadhana was undertaken, witnessed, and approved by none other than Banke Bihari of Vrindavan.

The years 2003-2008 saw him become physically leaner even as the strength and effulgence of the sadhana shone brightly on his face. This state continued for 5 years with the greatest intensity at Vrindavan, Rishikesh, Kashi, and Nasik and the forested areas in-between.

In 2011, yet another milestone was reached, he responded to give lectures at a Vedanta Sammelan [Conference] at Swami Kashikananda Ashram at Mumbai. There he met Swami Ramananda of Jagadguru Sannyasa Ashram. Even though the older Swami was suffering from 3rd stage cancer, he was profoundly impressed by the young Brahmachari, and expressed a wish to anoint Br. Abhishek Chaitanya as his Uttaradhikari [heir]. The Brahmachari accepted it as the Lord’s Will. He stayed with and lovingly nursed Swami Ramananda till the latter left his mortal coil. Thereafter events moved at lightning speed and on 2nd February 2013, the brilliant young Brahmachari was initiated as Mahamandaleshwar Abhishek Chaitanya Giri Maharaj in an elaborately traditional Pattabhisheka (Ordination ceremony) held in Kashi, on the banks of the sacred Ganga. The title was conferred upon him by the August Acharya Mahamandaleshwar Swami Punyananda Maharaj of Niranjani Akhada. Immediately thereafter, Swamiji moved to the Pavitra Bhumi (sacred ground) of Rishikesh where the Sanyas Ashram. Now as he enhances conditions at the Sanyas Ashram and travels around the world enthralling avid listeners with his unique style of discourses on Vedanta, Br. Abhishek Chaitanya envisions other projects: the setting up of an Old Age Home for Swamis and Mahatmas who can no longer serve society to provide them a place to live out their last days as they continue their sadhana with dignity.

Secondly, he is disappointed with and deeply concerned about the poor state of education in Sanskrit. He hopes to revive the language which alone has the capacity to show-case the essence of India and her universal acceptance through right knowledge.

Abroad, Swamiji continues to be an integral part of The Swarupa Iyengar Yoga Institute in Malaysia, a country he visits on an annual basis to impart in-depth teachings of the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali. He will open a similar facility for local devotees and those visiting the Sannyas Ashram in Rishikesh. He is warmly welcomed wherever he goes: Malaysia, Hong Kong, Philippines, Indonesia, and recently, France, and Italy.

Swami Abhishek Chaitanya Giri Maharaj is an inspiring example of the subtle Triveni – the merging of the 3 paths of Karma, Bhakti and Gyana. He accepts and guides whoever approaches him, seeing only the positive in each one’s personal inclinations, urging every individual toward the final goal. His own establishment in his faith in Adi Shankaracharya and his teachings is firm and steady making him the perfect guide to the Ultimate Goal---freedom from all limitations otherwise called Moksha.

I am happy for Joining this Teacher Training Course by Deep . If I never take the very first step to join this, I would never know that I could even go further. From the very first day, I voiced out my main purpose of joining this is to learn what is actually yoga, and I am happy that Deep has given me the answer. With meditation, my mental and physical body have gotten a relief. I have learnt a lot throughout this course, especially alignment in asanas and with correct alignment, therapeutic effect comes by itself with those asanas. Deep has never failed to listen to my questions and trying his best to work on the problem according to our body anatomy. To me, this is somehow life changing and I have found my passion in yoga Namaste~

Guru Mukh

Guru Mukh

At the age of 7 years, Guru Mukh was sent to a monastery by his parents where he lived for next 12 years. During his study years in monastery, he learnt different philosophies about life revealed to him by ancient Indian sages. This pious learning at an early age laid a strong spiritual foundation in his nature. At the monastery, he also came to learn about ancient meditation techniques through traditional hatha yoga practice.

After his monastery education, he took a diploma in Computer Science and started a career as web designer. In 2008, after working in the IT industry for 5 years, Guru Mukh finally decided to quit his job and follow the path he believed he was born to tread upon. He received OSHO Sanyaas Initiation in the same year and OSHO's vibrant spiritual lessons helped him in further on the path he has chosen for himself.

Since then he has been an inseparable part of yoga community. Here at Siddhi Yoga, he shares his understanding in the teachings of Traditional Hatha Yoga, Philosophies, Pranayama, Meditations and various Cleansing Processes, while occasionally expressing his being through Reiki, Singing and Playing a String Instrument called 'Dilruba'.

As he puts it, "Yoga surely helps to stay relaxed in any degree of situational and emotional intensity."

I knew within the first few moments of meeting Gurumukh that he was a true yoga teacher who does not merely practice and teach yoga, but truly lives by it in each moment. I have been fortunate to have been around many great yoga teachers, and none of them with as deep a commitment and complete understanding of yoga as him. If you are looking to learn yoga in it's truest form, you couldn't find anyone better in all of India. He has the ability to take difficult to understand concepts and turn them into relatable experiences for his students. Everyone in our training immediately fell in love with him and shared a deep connection to his teaching style which is full of laughter, joy, love and insight. He is not just a teacher but a dear friend, a mentor, and a student himself. I feel so, so lucky to have met him and to be able to call him my friend.

- Adam Carney, Los Angeles, CA

Gurumukh was my philosophy teacher during my teacher training and I think that he is one of the most inspiring persons I met . In his philosophy classes he was sharing the ancient and traditional practices of yoga as well as talking on many philosophical questions of a great importance then and now. With a good sense of empathy and flexibility he was open to explore whatever came up in the class , picking up every student on his own level of understanding . Gurumukhs words are profound and deep but still there is always a lot of space for joy and laughter. He is one of those teachers with whom you feel that they are living their wisdom every single day . Under his gentle and warm guidance we could create a space for gaining a deeper understanding how important love and togetherness are. In Meditation classes we explored many different ways and techniques to find meditation and exchanged our experiences. The compound of deep wisdom and his spreading joy personality is very authentic and unique and touched my heart deep inside.
