  • the Western Ghats and coast (south-western India)
  • the Indo-Gangetic Plain/North Indian Plain (a huge section of north-central India)
  • Assam and West Bengal
  • the Himalayas

Climate of India

We can tell you that the south part of India features a tropical climate, while the center part is hot and dry, and the north one is a bit cooler.

Seasons in India

After you get familiar with the climate of India, the next thing that could be important for you is to know the three main seasons.

-winter

-summer

– and the monsoon season

In fact, the best time to visit this incredible country is during the winter season.

Winter Season In India (November to February)

winter season in india

People associate winter with the cold weather, hot chocolate on the sofa, and probably watching some TV shows for relaxation.

But…

India isn’t the right place to feel that experience. During the months from November to February is the main part of India’s tourist season. December and January are likewise the busiest months.

In the central parts of India during the day, the temperatures are warm, yet, often quite chilly at night.

You need summer experience…

… South Goa is the perfect place for you. This is the location where it never gets cold. And that is a complete contrast to the freezing temperatures experienced in India’s Himalaya region (North India).

Where to go during the Winter Season?

The answer to this question is quite easy, and it is simply to hit the beach. The South part of Goa, for example, is one of the most picturesque places where you can watch the waves and feel these good vibes you want.

Palolem, Agonda, or fabulous Butterfly beaches are only a small part of all outstanding beaches in this part of the country.

The perfect time to make this trip is during the winter season because if you do it at a different time, the weather will be either too hot and humid or wet.

This is also the right time to visit the desert state of Rajasthan so that you can avoid the searing summer temperatures.

Summer Season In India (March to May)

The heating up in India starts from around the end of February, from the northern plains followed by the rest of the country.

During April in many parts of India, you can see daily temperatures exceeding 40 C 105 F.

The South part again ossifies its position as one of the best parts of India. With its summer temperatures reaching around 35 C, which is quite good, although it’s a lot more humid.

In the last days of May, the signs of the approaching monsoon start appearing. During this time, you can watch thunderstorms and dust storms while the Humidity levels are going up.

To say it shortly, during the summer in India the weather doesn’t change – its always extremely dry, sunny and hot!

Are you looking for places to visit during the Summer Season?

Perfect! Here they are…

…The summer can be tough and uncomfortable in most parts of India. This is the best time for visiting the mountains and hill stations. There you can feel the fresh and soothing air while taking a walk.

Popular destinations to visit are Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

And That’s not all…

…If you’re a nature and wildlife enthusiast, the hot summer is the perfect reason for you to dive into the comfortable shadow of the trees in India’s national parks.

You need to know that from May to mid-June are the school holidays.

And what?

Good question!

We tell you this because you need to know that this is the time in which Goa’s beautiful beaches or India’s cooler destinations are much busier.

Monsoon Season In India (June to October)

India actually has two monsoons, the northeast monsoon, and the southwest monsoon.

The northeast monsoon brings so much rain with it. The states of Kerala, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu defray a big part of their rainfall from this monsoon. But the rest of the country receives it from the southwest monsoon.

The northeast monsoon is characterized by the rain and the intermittent thunderstorms over many days. But, during the monsoon, the rain and thunderstorms are not the only states of the weather.

Often, the bad weather is followed by pleasant sunshine. The rain is ideal for bringing some respite from the searing heat.

The monsoon season is welcomed by farmers, but it can be an extremely challenging time in India. It is the reason for widespread sickness, destruction, and flooding.

It can be an excellent sunny day one minute, and the next, it’s pouring, so you need to know that the rain also appears out of nowhere, and it’s something normal for this season.

Where to go during the Monsoon Season?

As you can see from the text above, it’s not that easy to travel throughout most of India…

…The reason is that the monsoon season rain often interferes with transporting. But still, you can visit high altitude places in the far north.

During this time, you can get seriously discounted for accommodations in beach locations such as Goa. So this can be very good for your wallet too.
